Final Pieces for Subject

This is the final body of work that I produced for subject. I have been heavily influenced by colour and pattern and what to express a journey through the city by the use of small details and colours that can be seen here in Cardiff. I feel that by looking into John Pipers work it has opened up a whole new pathway for me artistically and I have been able to explore ways or working that i have not tried before.

Personal Statement

This year I have been focusing on the Urban Landscape in particular trying to embody the what its like to be travelling through Cardiff. I began through the exploration of my environment, collecting different found objects and taking photographs focusing on different compositions and pattern.

This began me on a journey trying to push the idea further by exploring abstraction through my paintings and prints, which helps to show my experience and the essence of Cardiff by the use of shape and colour rather than directly recording what I see around me.

Final piece

13313467_10154176392013187_229399858_oThis is one of the Final Pieces that I created for subject I have been inspired by the original abstract artwork i selected by john piper and many other influences such as my trip to Morocco and the style of art there and and by looking more into colour and pattern finding other Artists such as Hans Hoffman and Per Kirkeby. I chose to imagery taken from previous photographs of the city which I then used ink to create the gestural painting of the urban Landscape.

Field Reflection

The both field project that I took this year were both very different, The first Art and the conscious mind and the second to Marrakesh, Morocco. But both were worthwhile and let me learn and experience such different ideas and things that I would never of seen or heard of before. I have learned a lot and been exposed to so much throughout the year through the field projects, which I have been able to use within my own  practice or I will be able to use with my future practice.

The first field project was Art and the conscious mind, I did not enjoy this as much as the second one but I still found it interesting and can see how it can be useful to me and my own practice. Although there was a lot of new complex ideas I found it really useful to least start to come to terms with these new ideas and help widen my own knowledge. So although the information was vast it helped spark an interest into ideas and concepts that I wouldn’t of thought of before and that I could use in the future.

Marrakesh, Morocco was an incredible experience and had and immediate impact upon the work the I created I believe that it has inspired me this year to really push myself and change the way I work and be more experimental within my work in both field and subject work being heavily influenced by the experience of Marrakesh. Although it was only for a week there was so much to take in and we were able to experience so much and with the guidance of the project it has let me to looking into colour  and pattern throughout my  work this year.

Although both of the field projects were both very different in the way we learnt. I found both very useful to me and helped me gain knowledge on a huge amount of new ideas and concepts that I will be able to use within my future work. Art and the conscious mind helped me with my work as the surrealist games helped me create new compositions within my work when I was struggling with what direction to take my work in. I also think think that the new ideas that I was introduced do were interesting and with future research could be things that I could be interested in looking further into within my own work. Marrakesh, has an immediate impact on me as I feel it was such a new experience and it has really inspired me this year throughout all aspects of my learning even the topic for my initial dissertation research stemming from what I experienced through the trip to Marrakesh.

Overall I feel that both Field projects have been incredibly beneficial to my learning this year and will continue to inspire me in the future into different directions to take my work in or further my research into complex ideas that I would not of though of before the two projects.

Ink drawing final pieces

These were originally just going to be experiments but I ended up really like them and think they work well together with my other pieces. I created the work inspired by the City and the work of Franz Kline. I really enjoyed creating this work as it enabled me to use more free marks to create energy within the work with to me expresses partly the feeling of the City. I also selected imagery in the work that is taken from a specific journey that I feel are marker points that I see while walking which I hope shows a through each piece.

Found object Sculptures

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

These are sculptures that are made from found objects from my journey back to my house from university. I used the same objects to create different compositions that reflect the City. I wanted to use Photoshop to edit these but I couldn’t access it o the computers, but I will work into these in the future and push this idea. I really like the outcome of this experimentation as I think it reflects the City in the way I wanted, by focusing on the small details of the environment.

I created some paintings from the pictures as I liked the compositions and wanted to explore the idea further without the use of Photoshop. I also think that I would like to carry on collecting objects and construct the sculptures properly.
